Excessive Duct Leakage Detected

T008_Z ยป

Status

This is a non-critical fault.

Description

The EcoNet zoning system has determined that there is an excess of leakage in the duct system between the blower outlet and the dampers.

At commissioning the installer will run a duct measurement. The zoning system also performs a weekly duct measurement. During this duct measurement airflow is measured zone by zone and at the end it looks for leakage with all dampers closed.

This alert does not impact the operation of the system or zoning system directly although it may impact performance.

Cause

Duct leakage, especially enough to trigger this alert which is 25% of the system airflow is a direct result of supply ducts that have no zoning dampers in them.  This is a bad idea because it will lead to that space being uncontrolled.

It could be a result of, for example, a duct coming loose in the attic, crawlspace or basement.  If it wasn't there before, why now one would have to ask.

It is unlikely that a simple bypass humidifier would cause this but a ducted dehumidifier may be enough if its piped from the supply, through the dehumidifier and back into the return.  While this is probably not an ideal installation, it could mean you are bypassing too much air.

An unapproved bypass such as a barometric, manual or other damper may have been used and it opened during the duct measurement test.

The Intelligent Bypass would not be included in this measurement because it remains closed during this test.

Solution

Look for sources of air leakage between the outlet of the furnace or air handler and the damper system and correct as neccesary.

Check for piping suggestions from the supplier if a whole home dehumidifier is being used.

If a bypass, other than the Intelligent Bypass is being used, remove it and install a proper EcoNet Intelligent Bypass Damper per the installation instructions and training.
