T901_O: Inverter Fault - Comp. Overcurrent

EcoNet - T901_O ยป

Status

This is an Alert by its very nature and the unit will fail to start or will shut down shortly after starting displaying this fault. In the even this fault occurs 3 times in a single call, it will revert to a one hour lockout.

Description

The drive determined it was requiring too much current to start the compressor and shut it down.

Expected Operation

When the compressor is either locked up or flooded with refrigerant it will require more amperage to start the compressor. The drive is programmed with an amperage limit and will shut down the compressor for a 5 minute delay before trying to start again.

Cause

1. Liquid in the top of the compressor

2. Compressor Locked up

3. Weak Connection on Compressor harness at one end or the other

4. Windings Compromised

Solution

1. Warm top compressor shell slowly with heat gun to boil off any liquid in the top half of the compressor.

2. Try reversing two wires at UVW on the drive to force the compressor to try to start backward.  If it starts, shut it down quickly and reconnect UVW per the wiring diagram.

3. Verify connections at UVW are tight and wire is not compromised. Check wiring harness at compressor end. Ensure no corrosion is making a bad connection.

4. With a good meter, measure the resistance between windings on the compressor. Be sure compressor is not full of liquid as this will provide some variance in the winding resistance.  Resistance should be equal between compressor terminals. Check to be sure windings do not have continuity to ground. If compressor windings are grounded, replace the compressor.
